Chassis is here, first time really seeing it without a tarp or smothered in garage clutter.

Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!!

Pretty much what was expected, all the bodywork needs to be redone and the frame has some rot at the very rear. Overall nothing too serious, though for the sake of the neighbors work cant start in earnest until the Locost can be wheeled out of the garage and the fj plopped in.

Kinja'd!!!

The process will be, sand it back to bare metal, cut out all the cancer, paint, then attempt to put it back together and realize all the bits that are missing. Also none of this aftermarket wheels and body lift.

Spray paint the frame as it sits, congratulate yourself on another successful restoration

I love the vibe. Great project.

On the frame damage? I’d grade it a bit harsher than “some”. I’d make sure you go over these bits very, very closely before you get too far into it. This looks +ahem+ scary...

Bless you.  My shop’s welder guys HATE it when I bring one in this badly rusted through.

Excellent. Curious how the tent-garage-thing holds up.

Id b e afraid but its just the last 15" of frame, the rest is surface rust. If in the end i can’t find the replacement parts needed ill get creative with some 3/16" rectangle tube.

As a paid job this wo uld probably be a time sink.

It was a pricey example, the larger 12x20's all seem to be. It fit together great but the first coastal storm will be the real test, if it gets blown away or not

We get too much snow here for it to be practical over the winter to have one, and I’m not sure where I’d even set it up but for some reason I’m always curious about them, a whole lot cheaper than my monthly rate for the storage unit I have.

They wiggle around a bit from the tolerances between all the tubes, basically a very large tent(including moisture)

I thought about one for a while. Then a day like today reminds me why I didn’t do it - 25mph winds with gusts of 40+ all day long. I think I could do one, but would have to anchor it into some serious ground spikes or else just sonotubes or something, which, at that point, let’s just pour a slab. ‘Tis a bit windy here.

On the other hand, half my yard is now clear of leaves!

Probably be better off with the slightly more permanent steel roof versions, sure they cost more but they won’t wobble around and arnt designed around being quick to build/tear down.
